Keep His Commandments… (1John 2:1-6) 261007
Apostle John was just merely re-stating the fact and the truth about the purpose of Jesus’ death (v1-2). And he continued to appeal to his readers (including us) to keep His commandments (v3-4) or keep His words (v5) so that we know that we are in Him (v3-6).
Do you have doubt that you may not make it to heaven? Especially when you know you are not walking in the ways of the Lord, when you are not keeping His commandments or His Words. Looking at my life, I know that I do not deserve to go to be with God; but I know that by His grace and through faith, I will be there. But this constant fear and doubt will still be there, as long as I am not walking with Christ, for we ought to walk the in the same manner as Jesus walked.
I don’t think it is good to live in such fear, though it might not be an overwhelming one. It can cast doubts and sometimes cripple our service to one another. Apostle John had sort of given a formula to have this assurance of knowing God and that is to keep God’s commandments or His Words. Isn’t that simple? That is common sense!
But if we evaluate our live according to God’s words, how confident are we to say we have keep them all? If we don’t keep them, no wonder we have doubt about our relationship with God. How can we know God? Through His Words.
I am not suggesting that we are to become a legalistic Christian and everything we do, we have to check the Bible first. That will make us a Pharisee. But we are to read His Words daily, study it when, apply it, memories some and meditate on it too. We have to constantly let the Word of God embrace our life so that we can be sensitive to the working of the Holy Spirit when He guides us to walk in the way of Christ.
It will take some effort, but it gives us a sense of security and handle to walk with Christ. Have you keep His commandments today?
