Anti-Antichrist (1John 2:18-29) 301007

Watch out for the Antichrist! Who is the Antichrist? Is he the sign of the end time? How can we recognize the Antichrist? These were some of the questions of the first century Christians had and Apostle John was giving them the answer in today’s passage.

There can be many Antichrists (v18). These Antichrist could be one who have been with the believers but yet not a believer themselves (v19). Antichrist denies the Father and the Son (v22). More specifically, he denies the deity of Jesus, the Son of God (v23).

Apostle John was not really obsessed with the Antichrist. Likewise, we are not to be obsessed by the Antichrist. He is just could be one of us who decided to go against Jesus Christ our Lord. Though he may bring about lies and causes fear among the us, we must stand firm in the truth because no lie is of the truth (v21). That is why Apostle John went on to encourage his readers to the truth about Jesus abide in them and they abide in the Son and the Father (v24).

He was more concerned of the promise of God (v25), which was the anointing of the Holy Spirit whom will teach us about all things, and is true (v27). How do we know that we are born of Christ? If we also abide in Him (v28) and practice righteousness (v29).

Have you been abiding in Christ? Have you been spending enough time with the Lord to allow Him to speak and minister to you? I can testify that even I do this every morning, I still have great difficulty to practice righteousness. But I am confident that God is gracious to forgive my mistakes and help me to move on. Take time to dwell in His presence, allow Him to soak you with His love and lift you up with His gentle strength.

Do not need to worry about the Antichrist. He is no threat to us, but abide in Christ and practice righteousness, lest we become the Antichrist. Let’s anti-Antichrist in us.
