I am a warrior!
For the past one week, I have been busying doing some packing, cleaning and rearranging of my study room and the house. I got myself a new DVD home theater system and I borrowed some war movies from a friend and had been watching them. I always enjoyed watching war movies, not only for its effects, but also for there are many truths I can learn from different war movies. To me, war movie is not about killing or winning a battle, but it is about humanity, it is about brotherhood, it is about fighting for the truth!
I know it reality, we are also constantly at war. At work, we are at war with our employers or even our co-workers. We fight to get our projects completed, we fight to stay alive in this competitive world, we fight just to keep ourselves in the job. At school, we are fighting against exams, tests and projects. We seem to be surrounded by enemies of demands and competition. We use strategy like divide and conquer to take down each module at a time. At home, we thing we can have some peace, but the sometimes, home is a also a very fierce battle ground. Hurting words from parents, appreciating spouses, demanding children are like artilleries bombing us mercilessly, leaving us wounded without any medical attention. We are at war everywhere, almost all the time.
As a Christian, I also recognize that I am at war spiritually and also within myself at times. It is not easy to differentiate the battle that I am fighting is a spiritual one or one which is created by myself. In a real war situation, the soldiers at the battle ground are always at a very confuse state. They don’t know who are their enemies, the moment they see them they will try to eliminate them - kill at first sight! They also don’t know where are the enemies, it is only when they are being attack, then they response by firing back, but were confused about where exactly their enemies were!
I am also not sure whether I can pinpoint who and where is my enemy. But one thing for sure, I have to be ready to fight. I can’t afford to wait to know who and where my enemy is before I decide to engage in this battle. I am in this battle, regardless I want it or not. The only way to ensure my safety, it is to be always ready to engage. To do that, I have to be fit for battle, train for combat, and equip to engage. This sounds like a man-thing. I have such understanding not because I am someone who like to kill and fight. It is also not because I am a Singaporean man who has gone through National Service and has been brain washed by the Singapore Armed Force to become a fight machine. But I am just stating a reality that I believe that we can comprehend. This world is hostile against us. We have to be ready to engage it, else we will be run over by the world.
Recently, I have a personal experience about fighting a battle. My wife and I had noticed that there were many cockroaches appearing in our kitchen lately. So I was tasked by my wife to find out where their hideout and eliminate them. I was not difficult to notice that these six legged enemies were putting up a stronghold in the dark corner of the cabinet under my kitchen washing basin and stove. Therefore, I get myself ready on Monday and have a thorough battle plan to attack these enemies. I laid newspapers all over my kitchen to declare that is my battle ground. Then I put on hand gloves, wear a mask, and have a bottle of insecticides ready at hand as I slow open up the cabinet, one at a time, removing all obstacles that have been stored there. As I removed, I exposed the enemies, and they dashed out to challenge my weapon of mass destruction. I sprayed the insecticide over them, and slowed down all their movement before I killed them one by one. But there are some commandos cockroaches, they approached me at such a fast speed that I have to engage in close body combat and slammed them down with my hand with gloves. I keep moving in deeper into the enemy ground, and discover more enemies and I eliminate them all. The battle was a grand and massive one. I invaded the enemy territories and secured them so that they can not come back easily. In this battle, I have eliminated one battalion of cockroaches. I stayed calm when they surrounded me and seemed to be overwhelming for me to handle, because I know that my weapons are far superior and I will have victory for sure.
This is life. Life is a battle. Battle need warrior. I am a warrior! I am ready for the next battle!
