Know the Word of God (John 4:29-42) 210207
I believe that many of you will have to go back to work or to school by today. Some of you may have a longer break. No matter what, life goes on. For me, today, my wife is going for a business trip to Shanghai for about ten days. Therefore, I will be home alone.
But I will be still busy with my school work and ministries during this and next week. A special event which my friends (from Singapore Bible College) and I are organizing coming Saturday, it is called the Soccer Clinic. It is actually an event to reach out to youths through teaching them soccer. I really don’t know how many people will turn up, the planning and publicity for this event was rather short and fall within this festive season. I am really not too sure how will it turn out. But I trust God will bring those youths whom He has chosen to come for this event. Therefore, I invite you to join me to pray for this Saturday, 24 Feb, Soccer Clinic at SBC, 9am to 12noon. If you have friends who love soccer and want to learn more and age between 13 to 18, you are welcome to bring them there too.
I am convinced that people can only know God unless they hear His words. We can give our testimonies, and life inspiring stories, but what transform life is the Word of God. In today passage, many people believed in Jesus because of the Samaritan woman (v39), but they came to know Jesus as Savior only when they heard His Words (v42). And how can people hear the Word, unless we tell them, and unless we know the Word too. Therefore, I believe that testimonies and events like Soccer Clinic are good avenue to draw people to Jesus, but it is still ultimately the Word of God that transform people’s life. If not, it is the event or our testimonies become their Savior and not Jesus.
If you are writing your testimony and think that your story is not very interesting and may not be able to change life, I have a good news for you. It is not your testimony that change life, but I am sure that your testimony will draw your friends curiousity about Jesus. They may not say it out clearly or directly, but they will wonder why you give all credits in life to Him? They might be skeptical, they might be critical, they might be politely unreceptive, but I am sure that a seed of thought has planted in their heart. When at the right time, with the power of the Word of God, this seed will grow to its fullness, and ready for harvest. Therefore, you must know the Word of God.
Keep it short today, have to get ready to send my wife to the airport soon.
